After paying the bill, the shop owner escorted Nian Jinsui and Qin Chengyu to the door, surprised to see snow falling outside.
“This is the first snow of the year!” Nian Jinsui exclaimed, his eyes sparkling as he eagerly reached out to catch the softly falling snowflakes.
“May I have the honor of collaborating with you on a piece?”
Nian Jinsui turned around to see the shop owner holding a violin, smiling warmly at him.
Clearly, the owner was a romantic artist. With such a sincere invitation, how could Nian Jinsui refuse?
“It would be my pleasure,” Nian Jinsui agreed with a smile. He took out his violin and discussed the choice of music with the shop owner. “How about we play the second movement of Winter by Vivaldi?”
The shop owner nodded with a smile. “Perfect, it suits the atmosphere.”
Standing under the eaves, facing the swirling snow, the two began to play a melody of warmth for the winter.
The harmonious and graceful tune drew in passersby, who paused to listen. The music painted vivid images in their minds: the dancing flames of a fireplace, a gently rocking chair, and the cozy embrace of a warm quilt—a tranquil, dreamy, and beautiful scene.
Qin Chengyu stood quietly beside Nian Jinsui, his gaze fixed solely on him.
The snow swirling around them was stunning, but Nian Jinsui, at that moment, was even more breathtaking. He was radiant, transcendent, as if glowing with an otherworldly light.
It was the most beautiful sight Qin Chengyu had ever witnessed.
A wave of deep emotion and possessiveness surged in Qin Chengyu’s heart. He wanted to engrave this moment in his memory and keep this person by his side forever.
Nearby, a young couple whispered to each other while enjoying the music.
“Did you know? They say if you watch the first snow with the one you love, the two of you will be happy together forever.”
“Then let’s be together forever!”
Their words drifted into Qin Chengyu’s ears, making his breath quicken and his heart burn.
Yes, let him and Nian Jinsui be together forever.
Recovering from a serious injury often takes time. Nian Jinsui, who had always been pampered and lacked exercise, recovered slowly because he often chose to stay in a wheelchair and let Qin Chengyu push him around to increase his damage score, neglecting proper rehabilitation. It wasn’t until now that his bones had fully healed.
“The doctor says I can exercise normally now. Starting today, I’m going to start working out!” Nian Jinsui declared enthusiastically after returning from a check-up at the hospital.
Qin Chengyu, well aware of Nian Jinsui’s fragile constitution, couldn’t help but remind him, “Jinsui, you need to take it slow with exercise. If you push too hard, you might hurt yourself.”
“Don’t worry! I’m your fitness coach, remember? I know what I’m doing,” Nian Jinsui said confidently.
He turned to Butler Liu. “Uncle Liu, from today onward, prepare the same fitness meals for me as you do for Chengyu.”
Butler Liu hesitated. “Young master, today is New Year’s Day. How about a celebratory feast tonight and starting the fitness meals tomorrow?”
“No way. Fitness is all about discipline. A new year should begin with a commitment to health!” Nian Jinsui declared righteously.
“Understood, young master,” Butler Liu agreed reluctantly.
With the cold and snowy weather, outdoor exercise was no longer an option.
In the gym, Nian Jinsui set the treadmill for a 30-minute run and began his first step toward fitness.
Qin Chengyu, using another piece of equipment, kept a watchful eye on him.
About 15 minutes in, Qin Chengyu noticed Nian Jinsui slowing down considerably, his face pale and covered in sweat.
“Jinsui, maybe you should rest for a bit,” Qin Chengyu suggested.
“I’m fine… Perseverance is victory… I won’t give up halfway…” Nian Jinsui panted, stubbornly refusing to stop.
Before Qin Chengyu could say more, Nian Jinsui suddenly swayed and fell off the treadmill. Qin Chengyu reacted swiftly, catching him before he hit the ground.
“Jinsui, are you alright?”
Nian Jinsui’s vision darkened as the room spun. “I’m dizzy… and a little nauseous…”
Knowing this was due to overexertion, Qin Chengyu reassured him, “Rest for a moment. I’ll get you an electrolyte drink.”
Before he could leave, a startled voice came from the doorway.
“What are you two doing?”
Turning to the source, Qin Chengyu saw Nian Yixin. Judging by his shocked expression, he had clearly misunderstood the situation.
“Uncle Nian, Jinsui ran too hard and got dizzy. He almost fell off the treadmill. Could you stay with him while I get a drink? It’ll help him feel better.”
Alarmed, Nian Yixin hurried over to take Nian Jinsui from Qin Chengyu. “Alright, you go quickly. I’ll watch over him.”
As Qin Chengyu left, Nian Yixin glanced toward the door, wondering why Qin Chengyu had said it was a "trouble" for him to care for his own son. It felt odd.
After resting for a while, Nian Jinsui felt better. Seeing his father’s face, he exclaimed, “Dad! When did you get back?”
“Never mind that. How are you feeling?” Nian Yixin asked with concern.
“I’m fine now. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back? I thought you’d return for New Year’s.”
“It’s a short time until the New Year, and I missed you, so I came back early.”
Relieved to see Nian Jinsui recovering, Nian Yixin teased, “I wanted to surprise you, but you gave me a scare instead. When I saw you in Chengyu’s arms, I thought… well, something inappropriate.”
Nian Jinsui burst out laughing. “Dad, what are you imagining? Me and Chengyu? Impossible.”
“I think Chengyu cares a lot about you,” Nian Yixin teased.
Before Nian Jinsui could respond, Qin Chengyu returned with a drink. “Here, Jinsui. Drink this, and you’ll feel better.”
Parched, Nian Jinsui gulped down the drink without noticing the dark and complex emotions lingering in Qin Chengyu’s gaze—worry, and something deeper and more unreadable.
